The British Ports Association, the national trade body for all types of ports and harbours, is running a coastal photography competition to capture the beauty and visual impact of the UK’s coast and maritime influence.
This competition is open to anyone, including members of the public and workers around the coastal regions. As the UK has endured the Coronavirus pandemic and lockdown restrictions, there has seen an influx of visitors in and around port regions. The British Ports Association are therefore calling on all budding photographers to submit shots that they have taken that capture the charm and the essence of the UK’s maritime resources and its island geography!
The British Ports Association is looking for submissions to capture attractive images, either of coastal activities and/or of ports and harbours. This can focus on anything from wildlife, through to tourism or economic activity.
British ports and harbours are often the heartbeat of the coastal regions, directly employing over 115,000 people and handling 95% of the UK’s international trade, as well as many other economic activities such as providing hubs for our energy, tourism and fishing industries.
The competition winner will receive a gift voucher for £750 from a selection of online retailers. Smaller prizes will also be awarded to runners up. The winning picture will be used by the British Ports Association in its forthcoming publications and will feature in it’s 2020 Annual Review.
Entries must have been taken from anywhere coastal in the UK, including the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man and also in Britain’s overseas territories. Pictures should be submitted no later 1 December 2020 after which a selection of the best photographs will be displayed online and there will be to a public vote to select the winner.
