New Linkspan at Portsmouth International Port

Bridging the future at Portsmouth International Port with new ferry facility.

A new more efficient linkspan has just come into operation at Portsmouth International Port, the latest multi million pound investment in new facilities at Britain’s Best Connected Port.

The linkspan, which is best described as a drawbridge for getting vehicles on and off ferries, is now in use at Berth 4.  It follows a tightly choreographed operation to install and commission it after a three day sea crossing from Deest in Holland where it was manufactured.

Lerwick to rewrite port's cruise records

The arrival of the cruise ship Magellan in Lerwick Harbour this week will launch a season set to break five records – with even higher bookings for 2019 adding to the positive outlook.

Over the next eight months, the Shetland port is scheduled to welcome:

· Approaching 92,000 passengers, up 81% on last year’s record 50,768.

·  Most passengers yet on a single vessel – over 4,500 on MSC Meraviglia, plus over 1,500 crew.

Portland Port welcomes Inter Marine UK to the port estate

On 9th January 2018, Portland Port were pleased to officially sign lease documents with Intermarine UK Limited, who will now have their UK headquarters based in the port estate.

The Inter Marine Group has been established since 1990; they have created a modern, international and market-competitive group of companies which cover marine engineering, international trade, employment agency and shipping services.

Business women making waves at Milford Waterfront

Business women from Pembrokeshire are making their mark at Milford Waterfront. During the past twelve months, a number of new businesses have opened their doors to the thousands of visitors and locals choosing to spend their time shopping and socialising in waterfront surroundings.

Following the success of Healthaspire, a nutrition centre run by Ellen Picton, she launched Trwffl with partners Debbie Anthony and Sandra Bevan in September. The team create an impressive range of handmade truffles using dark chocolate which is known to have many health benefits.

Port of Dover announces fifth consecutive record year for freight

The Port handled 2,601,162 lorries in 2017 - up on the previous record by almost 10,000 units. It brings the total increase over the last five years to just under 650,000 units or 33% per cent.

This continued growth, says Port of Dover Chief Executive Tim Waggott, is proof that Dover continues to be the port of choice for hauliers travelling to and from Europe – the UK’s largest trading partner.
